You know those days where everything seems like a test? That was yesterday.
It started with excitement because I realized I’d actually be able to attend this month’s Wine, Women & Wealth. Most months I miss it because I’m working on the ambulance, so I texted Susan, the organizer, to see if there was room left. Thankfully there was, and I thought, “Great, this is going to be a good day.”
Then the real adventure began. When I went to leave the farm where my horses are, my car was dead. Luckily, the family there had a battery kit and I was on the road within 10 minutes. I even took the long way home, nearly 50 minutes, to give the battery a chance to recharge. That plan failed. Once home, the car still wouldn’t start.
Cue the towing company, $65 for a quick jump start (clearly I’m in the wrong business), and a frantic shower before heading straight to AutoZone in Terrell. Car trouble is not my area of expertise, but thankfully the folks there were kind and got me set up with a brand-new battery. Honestly, I was grateful it happened today, on payday, and not tomorrow morning at 4:30am on my way to work.

By then I was running behind, so I did my makeup in the car and drove straight to Forney for Wine, Women & Wealth. The group was smaller than usual, probably thanks to the wrecks all over Hwy 80 and I-20—but I had a great time. I met some new people, enjoyed good food, and even learned a thing or two about life insurance.

Yes, I’m behind on everything else I planned to do today because of that battery fiasco. But I’m choosing gratitude. The car works, I made it to the event, and I ended the day with new connections and lessons learned.
Sometimes, all you can do is laugh and say out loud: “Not today, Satan. Not today.”
