Yesterday was another round of the Wills Point Community Market, and to be honest, I went into it with very high expectations. With the Hwy 80 Sale happening at the same time, I was sure the streets would be filled with people eager to shop, explore, and support small businesses. But reality didn’t quite match my hopes.
There were some people out and about, and I’m grateful for every single one who came by. The good news? Those who came didn’t just browse—they bought! That’s a win in my book. Still, it wasn’t the crowd I had anticipated. I’d say about 50% of the vendors were really happy, while the other half were just… satisfied. And if you know me, you know that just satisfied isn’t good enough. I want everyone to feel that our events are worth every minute they spend with us.
One of the biggest challenges I’m facing right now is promotion. So many local Facebook groups have tightened their rules, and some even delete posts about community events because they consider them advertising. It’s incredibly frustrating because these events are for the community, by the community—not ads! But challenges spark creativity, and this morning I had an idea: signs!
Starting next month, I plan to put up signs along HWY 80 and other high-traffic areas around town on Friday nights. This way, when people are already out and about, they’ll see reminders about the market happening the next day. It’s a simple solution, but sometimes simple is exactly what’s needed.
Speaking of next month—May 17th is shaping up to be exciting! We’ll be offering CPR training at the market, and I’m hopeful that this will attract more people who want to learn a lifesaving skill while supporting local vendors.
As for me, tomorrow kicks off a brand-new week, and I’m ready to reload and keep pushing forward. I’m super excited because I’ll be recording my first two podcast episodes—a big milestone for me! Plus, I’ll be prepping for two upcoming speaking engagements the following week. It’s going to be busy, yes, but it’s the kind of busy I absolutely love.
If there’s anything this weekend taught me, it’s that entrepreneurship is a constant dance of adapting, learning, and staying positive. Not every day will go according to plan, but every step forward is still progress.
Here’s to a fresh week, new ideas, and making things happen! 🚀
