From Chamber Luncheon To Watermelon Victory

Today I had the pleasure of attending the Wills Point Chamber of Commerce Quarterly Luncheon. It is always a nice break from the daily grind to step into a room full of people from our community, catch up on what’s new, and share a few laughs.

The luncheon meal was from Lacey’s Farmers Market, and it was absolutely delicious. Fresh, flavorful, and exactly what a good community gathering should be fueled by. The presentation came from Trinity Valley Electric Company, and I have to say, I was impressed. They shared about the scholarship programs they offer to local students and their annual trips to the Capital. One of the highlights was hearing from a student who had been on that trip. Listening to him describe the experience was both inspiring and a great reminder of the opportunities right here in our own backyard.

Of course, no luncheon is complete without a little excitement… and that came in the form of the door prizes.

I had ticket number 421. Now, if you know me, you know that 21 is my lucky number. I noticed a beautiful watermelon among the prizes and immediately set my sights on it. The drawing began and the first number called was 420. Close, but no melon. Then came 422. My hopes were building. And then it happened… 421!

In that moment, there was no doubt in anyone’s mind who had the winning ticket. Let’s just say my reaction was… enthusiastic. The room had a good laugh as I claimed my prize with a grin that could rival the watermelon itself. I walked out of there with my melon held high like it was the Stanley Cup.

Some people leave events with business cards, others with new contacts, and occasionally someone walks away with a scholarship opportunity. Me? I walked away with a watermelon… and I’m perfectly fine with that.

Because in life, sometimes you just have to celebrate the little wins. Even if they weigh ten pounds and roll off the counter if you’re not careful. 🍉
