A Warm Welcome in Kilgore

This week marked a little milestone for me—I took my first eastbound Rotary Club visit, heading down I-20 to the charming town of Kilgore, Texas. Up until now, every Rotary meeting I’ve spoken at has been west of Wills Point. So today was new territory, and I was excited.

I’d never been to Kilgore before, and wow—what a cute little town! I got there a little early (which almost never happens!), so I had time to take in the sights and walk around a bit. I didn’t snap any photos—typical me, always caught in the moment and forgetting to grab my phone. Squirrel! But take my word for it—Kilgore has that small-town charm that just wraps around you like a cozy blanket.

The Rotary Club of Kilgore meets at noon every Wednesday at the St. Paul Episcopal Church. The church itself is absolutely stunning from the outside, and although we met in the Parish Hall, I can only imagine the inside is just as beautiful.

I had the honor of sharing my story—From Flatline to Frontline—with about 15 attendees. Every time I speak, I’m reminded how powerful storytelling is, especially when it sparks thoughtful questions and conversations. The Kilgore group didn’t disappoint—they were engaged, curious, and kind.

At the end of my talk, they gave me the most beautiful leather cover with a book inside. What they didn’t know was that I actually have a glass cabinet where I display every token, gift, or little memento I receive from speaking. So I asked them, “Would you mind signing it for me?” And they did. Every name, every note—it means the world to me.

Now that signed book sits proudly in my collection, a reminder of yet another incredible group of people I’ve had the privilege to connect with this year.

And yes—I have to mention it—the sandwich they served was amazing. You all know how much I appreciate a good meal with good company. 😊

Thank you again, Rotary Club of Kilgore, for the warm welcome, the thoughtful gift, and a truly memorable afternoon.

Onward to the next bold step…
